Title: Giant Flares and Non-Thermal Activity in the Crab Nebula
Abstract: We propose a target of opportunity program to observe the Crab pulsar and inner nebula at the time of intense gamma-ray flares detected by Fermi, together with a scheduled program to establish a baseline and quantify the properties of the inner nebula in the absence of giant flares. These two programs, which involve laser guide star AO observations in the near-infrared, will be coordinated with analogous activities on Chandra and HST at shorter wavelengths.
