Title: A Survey of Unclassified \emphROSAT-BSC Sources for qLMXB Candidates
Abstract: Spectroscopic measurements of the thermal emission of neutron stars in quiescent low-mass X-ray binaries (qLMXBs) are one of only three methods to constrain the equation of state of cold nuclear matter. Up to now, this method has been limited in its application to qLMXBs within globular clusters, due to the high distance uncertainty of qLMXBs in the field. Gaia parallax measurements will soon allow the use of field qLMXBs with sufficiently bright optical counterparts in this key test of physics. We propose to undertake a survey of unclassified \emphROSAT BSC sources with high apparent X-ray to infrared flux ratios for H(alpha) excess, a tell-tale sign of accretion disks, in order to select qLMXBs candidates for X-ray followup.
