Title: Reaching the Edge of the Large Magellanic Cloud

Abstract: Current, extensive surveys of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) have not \it yet detected a halo such as is known to exist around the Milky Way and M31. Using Washington+DDO51 photometry and spectroscopy, we have discovered an extended population of the LMC at a distance of 22^\circ from its center. We propose to extend our Washington+DDO51 photometric map of the LMC tangentially and radially in order to ascertain the nature of the extended population (halo, tidal tail, polar ring) and to find the edge of the LMC. The use of Washington+DDO51 photometry allows us to discover very diffuse structures which are otherwise difficult to find. Most current surveys of the LMC are dominated by the background after ~8^\circ from the LMC.
