Title: Late-Time Spectroscopy of Nearby Type Ib/c Supernovae
Abstract: We propose to obtain late-time spectroscopy of nearby (z <=0.05) Type Ib/c supernovae with GMOS. Late-time observations of these supernovae are important in understanding the physics of these explosions by revealing the kinds and quantities of elements created, as well as the velocity structure of the ejecta. Understanding the distribution of supernova properties will not only increase our understanding of the explosive nucleosynthesis and the massive progenitor stars, but also help differentiate between the various progenitor models of gamma-ray bursts, which are connected to (at least some) type Ic supernovae.
