Title: Measurement of Warm Gas in Transitional Disks around Young Stars

Abstract: \indent It as been suggested that gaps and rings observed in transitional disks around pre-main sequence stars are evidence of embedded companions. However, whether such structure is due gas-grain interaction or planetary perturbations is not clear. We propose a high signal-to-noise observation of CO emission from the transitional disks surrounding HD 141569 and AU Mic. Both of these sources have optically thin dust disks with structure thought to be caused by an as yet unseen planetary companion. Strong CO emission lines have been observed from HD 141569, however they were unresolved at a resolving power of ~25,000. Observation of velocity resolved CO emission lines will enable the measurement of the content and distribution of gas in the disks. This measurement will bear on whether the observed structure in the transitional disks is due to gas-grain interactions or an embedded companion
