Title: A first unbiased NIR survey toward the R Cr A molecular cloud
Abstract: We propose the completion of the first deep, unbiased NIR survey of the entire R Corona Australis molecular cloud. Using our recent SIMBA maps for determining the visual extinction throughout the cloud we adjusted the integration time in such a way that we obtain a fairly homogeneous and complete view of the current population of YSOs down to about 0.8 M_\odot. The NIR data will complement our recent MIR and mm surveys and will help to constrain the physical properties of the newly discovered extremely young population. Likewise, the proposed JHK data in combination with our own 10 (micron) and ISOCAM's 7 (micron) and 14 (micron) data will distinguish between normally reddened stellar photospheres and IR excesses due to circumstellar material. This way, we will study the frequency of disks in R Cr A and compare them with other well studied star forming regions. This is the second try for a follow-up to a highly successful run in 2004 to fill in data lost partly due to unexpected ToO observations and to a highly unsuccessful run in 2005 when we lost 100% of our time due to bad weather.
