Title: Exploring the Outer Edges of Galaxies

Abstract: We are aggressively obtaining large-radial kinematics in galaxies in order to study their dark halo profiles and orbital structure. The focus of this proposal is to obtain spectra for about 150-200 globular clusters around NGC5846, NGC720, and IC1459. Their velocities will be combined with the stellar kinematics and x-ray data to provide a detailed picture of the current dynamical state of the galaxies. Furthermore, we will use the spectra to measure cluster ages and abundances, providing additional insight into the evolutionary history of the clusters and hosts. All galaxies have or will have supporting observations from deep long-slit absorption-line studies. The three galaxies in this proposal are chosen to complement existing and ongoing studies, giving us a comprehensive picture for early-type galaxy evolution and the best comparison to theoretical models.
