Title: The nature of the ultra-compact X-ray binary 4U 0614+09

Abstract: We propose to obtain time resolved spectroscopy of the suspected ultra-compact X-ray binary 4U 0614+09 to determine its orbital period and the nature of the donor, which is expected to be the core of a Carbon-Oxygen white dwarf. This will test the proposed evolutionary scenario for ultra-compact X-ray binaries and, if confirmed, provide an unprecedented view into the interior of a possibly cristallized white dwarf.
