Title: Photometric Calibrators for the Second Generation Guide Star Catalog

Abstract: Our goal is to obtain B, V, R CCD photometric sequences down to ~ 20 mag with an accuracy of about 5%. These sequences are needed to complete the Second Guide Star Photometric Catalog (GSPC-II), which is being utilized by teams of the STScI and OATo to photometrically calibrate the digitized Schmidt plate archive used to build GSC-II. A first version of this catalog (GSC2.2) containing positions, magnitudes and colors for about 450 million objects down to 18.5 mag is already public; a new, improved version, containing over a billion objects is planned to be released in 2003. We intend to cover as soon as possible the remaining 70 target fields corresponding to the southern survey plates currently lacking adequate phometric calibrators. To be able to observe all the proposed targets, which span a range of R.A. from 00h to 24h, we will need 7 observing nights; however, they will need to be split into two segments: 3 nights to be executed in the first semester and 4 in the second semester. We will submit an identical proposal in semester 03B to request the remaining 4 nights.
