Title: Redshift Survey for Strong Emission Line Galaxies

Abstract: We propose to observe ultra-strong emission line galaxy (ELG) candidates at intermediate redshift ($z sim$ 1). We will perform a narrowband (NB) selection using deep broadband $i'$, $z'$, and $y'$ ($sim deg$^$ coverage) and NB814 AA~ and NB921 AA~ ($sim deg$^$ coverage) imaging of the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) from Suprime-Cam and Hyper Suprime-Cam on Subaru. WIYN/Hydra's field of view is well matched to the surface density of such NB-selected sources ($sim deg$^$), allowing us to obtain redshifts and measure strong emission line properties of a large sample of candidate low- metallicity galaxies. The most promising of these can then be followed up with Keck/DEIMOS to estimate metallicities directly from the weak [OIII]$lambda63 line. Our program will elucidate the role of ELGs in the cosmic star formation history out to $z sim 1$, help recalibrate strong-line metallicity diagnostics for use beyond the local Universe, and help formulate predictions for low-metallicity galaxies at $z gtrsim 6$. We request 4 dark nights in August or September to continue our program, from which we expect to obtain redshifts for up to $sim0 strong ELGs.
