Title: THE OPTICAL SPECTROSCOPIC CAMPAIGN OF GAMMA-RAY BLAZAR CANDIDATES: 10 YRS AFTER THE FERMI LAUNCH
Abstract: One of the main scientific objectives of the Fermi-NOAO Cooperative Arrangement is: studying candidate counterparts, including redshift determination of previously unknown BL Lacs and high-redshift blazars. We propose to extend our optical spectroscopic campaign, already approved in Fermi Cycle 6, 9 and 10, to reveal the nature of all the blazar candidates of uncertain type (BCUs) and all the blazar-like objects, potential counterparts of the unidentified gamma-ray sources (UGSs) selected according to our methods based on the IR colors, to the Fermi 8 year source list. Our legacy project is crucial to prepare the future releases of the Fermi catalogs and to improve our knowledge of the blazar population.
