Title: Redshifts for Strong Emission Line Galaxies

Abstract: We propose to observe ultra strong emission line galaxies at intermediate redshift, which contain a significant fraction of the star formation rate density in this redshift range. We will select targets from 40 deg$^2$ of g,r,i,z,y, and NB921 imaging of the north ecliptic pole from the Hyper Suprime Cam (HSC) on Subaru, which is one third of the expected imaging from our survey. We will also observe targets in several deg2 of SSA22 and A370, for which we have a combination of HSC and Suprime Cam imaging. We have developed an observing program to find a substantial amount of low metallicity galaxies with enrichment levels less than 10% solar. Galaxies such as these are rare in the local universe and have been shown to increase in number at intermediate redshifts. The strong emission lines and redshifts obtained by Hydra on WIYN will optimize deep spectroscopy with DEIMOS on Keck, where we can measure the weak [OIII]$lambda$4363 as a direct metallicity measure. We will increase the number of directly measured metallicities by a factor of a few and extend galaxy metallicity studies to a redshift of 1. We request 4 nights to continue our observing program.
