Title: Late-time NIR Template Observations of the Extraordinary GRB 170817A

Abstract: Observations of the optical and near-infrared (NIR) counterpart to the extraordinary gamma-ray burst (GRB) 170817A have revealed numerous insights into the connection between neutron star mergers and short-duration GRBs. In addition, our previous Gemini FLAMINGOS-2 programs have led to the identification of a red kilonova component associated with this event that was the site of significant r-process nucleosynthesis. We propose to return to the site of the NIR counterpart to obtain image subtraction templates in JHK_s to produce the best possible NIR light curve using the data already in hand for this landmark event.
