Title: Calibration of RR Lyrae stars in DECam filters
Abstract: We propose to characterize DECam $ugrizY$ lightcurves of RR Lyrae stars in 6 Milky Way globular clusters in order to derive both absolute magnitude and color at minimum light relationships as a function of period and metallicity, based on a few hundred RR Lyrae stars. These data will join previous observations of 4 globular clusters we have obtained in the past. The globular clusters will be chosen to span a range not only in metallicity but also we plan to observe clusters from different Oosterhoff groups to study any possible difference in the relationships for each group. The resulting calibration will allow us to obtain both distances and interstellar extinctions from RR Lyrae stars in a homogeneous scale in the DECam filter system without the need of adding errors due to the transformation between photometric systems. These calibrations will have a large impact in multiple current projects that use DECam to observe RR Lyrae stars in different components of the Milky Way and in its satellite system.
