Title: Short-period Variables in the DECam Minute Cadence Survey
Abstract: We have recently studied the variability of 31732 point sources with g-band magnitudes less than 24 mag from the first field of the DECam Minute Cadence survey. We find 49 variable objects in the field, including 4 objects with periods less than 1 hour. While all four of these short period targets are blue objects, we cannot reliably identify them from period and color alone. Here we request Gemini time to obtain low-resolution spectroscopy of these four targets in order to definitively identify them. Not only will these results be used to identify variable objects in the remaining two fields of the survey, they will also inform expectations from larger high-cadence surveys such as the ZFT Galactic Plane Survey and the LSST.
