Title: Weak Lensing in Clusters of Galaxies with PhoSim

Abstract: Measurements of masses of clusters of galaxies and their dark matter distributions via weak gravitational lensing is important for observational cosmology. We have developed a novel set of codes, the Photon Simulator (PhoSim) to simulate astronomical observations photon- by-photon to assist in weak lensing measurements. We propose a two- night period where we will calibrate PhoSim using bright star fields centered on globular clusters and observe three clusters of galaxies to make dark matter maps in conjunction with PhoSim. In addition, the proposed observations will be useful for validating PhoSim itself. We have already implemented the WIYN ODI optical design in PhoSim, and plan to use the proposed observations to validate and calibrate PhoSim with an existing observatory, and to study weak lensing in conjunction with PhoSim simulations.
