Title: Dust Clouds and Aurora in Ultracool Dwarfs: A K2 and Gemini Campaign

Abstract: Ultracool dwarfs have puzzling atmospheres that show variability due to inhomogeneous dust clouds, auroral activity, and white light flares, but disentangling these processes is difficult with limited time in short observing windows. K2 Campaign 16 offers the unique opportunity to combine over two months of space-based optical photometric monitoring with multiwavelength ground-based observing. This proposal requests moderate resolution (R~1700) spectroscopy of the peak near-infrared region of an ultracool dwarf to test dust cloud and auroral variability models.
