Title: Spectroscopic Rotational Velocities of Exoplanet Analogs

Abstract: Rotation rates carry the imprint of angular momentum evolution. Previous studies have shown that field brown dwarfs are fast rotators but very little is known about the rotation rate and angular momentum of young, low-mass brown dwarfs. We propose for high resolution Gemini GNIRS spectra of 8 exoplanet analogues. These will be combined with archival data and IRTF iSHELL data to produce a total sample of 31 low-mass brown dwarfs. We will study the relation between rotational velocity and mass to determine whether the rotation of these objects matches more closely with directly imaged exoplanets or field brown dwarfs. Furthermore, we will investigate the radial contraction of brown dwarfs with age via its influence on rotation. This could be a transformative test of evolutionary models, potentially providing an answer to the substellar luminosity problem.
