Title: Mapping the Edge of the Milky Way with RR Lyrae

Abstract: We request 2 nights of CTIO 4m/DECam time to search $sim36$~deg$^2$ of sky for RR Lyrae in the outer halo of the Milky Way, beyond $100$,kpc and possibly out to $250$,kpc. We will combine this with an additional request of 2 nights from the Chilean TAC (PI: Mu~noz) to map $sim70$~deg$^2$. Based on our discovery of the most distant Galactic RR Lyrae (Medina et al. 2017a) with DECam time-series observations, we expect to find at least 10 distant RR Lyrae in this distance range, and possibly discover a dwarf galaxy, in a modest expenditure of telescope time. The resulting RR Lyrae are a vital probe of the recent accretion history of the Milky Way, and may ultimately yield strong constraints on the total mass of our Galaxy.
