Title: Shedding Light on the Nature of Proposed Protoplanets Around LkCa 15

Abstract: Young, 1-10 Myr old jovian protoplanets provides a crucial link between the first stages of planet formation and the properties of directly-imaged, fully formed planets orbiting 10--100 Myr-old stars. One of the key, first benchmark protoplanet candidates identified was around LkCa 15, a young analogue to the the Sun around which two works have identified up to 3 candidate protoplanets. However, recent work casts serious doubt on these planets' existence, suggesting that instead the candidates are misidentified disk signals. To shed light on the nature of LkCa 15's candidate planets, we new propose Subaru/SCExAO JHK integral field spectroscopy and H-alpha imaging through the Subaru/Gemini exchange. Our program will identify any evidence for orbital motion in these candidates and clarify whether the signal originates from protoplanets or LkCa 15's inner disk.
