Title: Probing Dark Matter Substructure and the LMC Mass with Jet 1: a new cold stellar stream

Abstract: Dynamically cold stellar streams are amongst the most promising candidates to provide the first evidence for an outstanding prediction of $Lambda$CDM: the existence of $10^{6-7} M_{rm sun}$ dark matter substructures. We have recently discovered a new cold stream. Named Jet 1, the 10 degree extent of this stream is truncated at either end by a survey footprint and a region of poor data quality. We propose searching for stream extensions over 40 degrees, to maximize our probability of detecting a subhalo-stream interaction. As with all cold streams, the track of Jet 1 can also constrain the smooth component of the Galactic potential. On top of this, Jet 1 is well aligned with the orbit of the LMC. If it extends southwards, Jet 1 will be the cold stellar stream with the smallest distance to the LMC, and is therefore likely to have been perturbed by the LMC potential. This offers the exciting prospect that dynamical modeling of Jet 1 could provide a much- needed constraint of the total mass of the LMC.
