Title: Redshift Identification for HSC Survey

Abstract: We are performing a wide-field (120 deg$^2$) emission line survey centered on the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP) that will identify the population of ultra-strong emission line galaxies (USELs) from z = 0-1. We will search for these galaxies in continuum $textit{g’}$, $textit{r’}$, $textit{i’}$, $textit{z’}$,$textit{y’}$ images from the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) and the 8140A and 9210A narrowband filters on the HSC and Suprime-Cam on Subaru. We will use WIYN/Hydra to acquire spectroscopic redshifts and equivalent widths of strong emission lines for these galaxies to select the most qualified low-metallicity galaxy candidates. We will then obtain deep 10 m spectroscopy using Keck/DEIMOS. These measurements will allow us to determine if there is a metallicity floor in late forming galaxies (z $<$ 1) that accreted from an previously enriched intergalactic medium. We are proposing for 3 nights to do an initial run on the newly obtained HSC broadband and narrowband data, and 3 nights to complete observations of all of our sources in the Lockman Hole, our 2016B primary field for which we have 5 nights.
