Title: Completing the Southern eROSITA Sky with DECam

Abstract: The eROSITA X--ray satellite will launch at the end of 2017 and map the whole sky eight times over four years to find $sim10^5$ galaxy clusters and 3 million AGNs. We have identified 1300 deg$^2$ in the southern sky that will not have the required optical imaging depth to complement eROSITA observations until LSST starts full science operations in 2023footnote{https://www.lsst.org/about/timeline}. We propose to use DECam to observe this area. These data will enable the optical confirmation of $sim3 times 10^3$ clusters and $sim10^5$ X- ray selected AGNs. With a depth of $m^*+1$ up to redshift 0.8 for cluster red sequence galaxies, we will be able to obtain robust cluster redshifts, characterize the cluster luminosity function, and study the galaxy cluster populations as a function of the cluster dynamical state to z$sim, among other science goals. Furthermore, the proposed observations, along with data from other existing and on-going surveys, are crucial to achieving the eROSITA collaboration goals of testing cosmological models, studying structure formation and evolution and providing targets for the 4MOST spectroscopic survey starting in 2021.
