Title: Probing H_2 molecular jets in proto-brown dwarfs

Abstract: We propose to carry out a high spatial resolution, deep, narrow-band near-IR imaging study of jets recently detected by us in two very young brown dwarfs, in the Ophiuchus star forming region. Deep narrow-band near-IR imaging with the the Spartan infrared camera on the SOAR 4m telescope will allow us to detect very faint structures, determine the position angle and orientation of the jets, as well as the existence, morphology and emission of knots and structure not previously seen. At the same time we will study the jet morphology on a wider spatial scale, looking at whether the jets are wide-length and highly collimated, and if there are any additional knots farther from the source indicating possible episodic events, as seen in the jet for the optically visible large scale jet in the M1701117 very young brown dwarf in Orion. Our proposed program will provide the first high spatial resolution, narrow band images of H$_{2}$ molecular jets at the very low-luminosity end, allowing us to investigate large-scale jets driven by objects near the substellar regime, and shedding new light into the nature of accretion phenomena at the very low-mass mass range.
