Title: ARCoIRIS Survey of DECam-discovered Brown Dwarf Candidates in the Nearest OB Association

Abstract: This proposal is the continuation of a survey using DECam to discover new young benchmark M/L dwarfs in the two nearest subgroups to the sun (Lower Centaurus-Crux and Upper Centaurus-Lupus; d$simeq$90-190 pc), and ARCoIRIS to measure the spectral type and surface gravity to confirm their youth ($sim$11-26 Myr). The candidates were identified using izY photometry and proper motions based on DECam images taken in 2013 and 2015, combined with archival photometry and astrometry from all sky surveys like 2MASS and WISE, and are all consistent with M/L dwarfs in Sco-Cen with with estimated masses ranging from $sim$13 M$_{textrm{Jup}}$-0.072 M$_odot$. Spectra was obtained for a small fraction of sources (16) in 2016A using ARCoIRIS but overcast weather prevented the completion of the survey (an additional 55 objects). Once completed this survey will provide an important new sample of young, low surface gravity ultracool dwarfs with well-constrained ages and distances that will improve our understanding of brown dwarf atmospheres and provide valuable constraints on models of brown dwarf formation that appear to underestimate substellar luminosity.
