Title: Confirmation of Signposts of Planet Formation

Abstract: The detection of forming gas giant planets in disks around young stars will be a watershed moment in our quest to understand the initial conditions of planet formation. Previous work by our group has provided evidence of a spectroscopic signatures of a forming massive companion in the transition disk of the Herbig Be star HD100546: the Doppler shift of thermal CO emission consistent with a Keplerian orbit near the inner rim of the outer disk (R~14AU). In this proposal we request time to re-observe the CO emission to measure the temperature of the gas to determine the size of the emitting region. This observation will also allow us to better characterize the environment of a forming gas giant companion.
