Title: Follow-up Observations of HATNet Transiting Planet Candidates with WIYN
Abstract: Transiting planets around bright stars are key objects for exploring the physical properties of planets outside the Solar System. The US- based HATNet survey is one of the leading efforts for discovering and characterizing these planets. Here we propose to use the NESSI and WHIRC instruments on the WIYN~3.5,m to carry out follow-up observations of candidate transiting planet systems identified by HATNet. Both NESSI and WHIRC will be used to search for resolved stellar companions to these systems in order to rule out blended stellar eclipsing binary false positives, correct the masses and radii of confirmed planets for dilution from any companions that are found, and to constrain the fraction of hot Jupiter host stars with wide binary companions. Additionally we propose to use WHIRC to obtain NIR time-series observations of four candidates to rule out eclipsing binary false positive scenarios.
