Title: Astrometry of Long Period Comets

Abstract: We propose to obtain astrometry for a set of long-period comets having large ephemeris errors and at risk of becoming lost. The resulting improvement in the orbital elements of these objects will a) enable future narrow-field investigations with other telescopes b) permit the refined determination of non-gravitational acceleration parameters on these objects for comparison with the short-period comets and c) permit an accurate determination of the entry orbital elements (after removal of planetary perturbations). The observations capitalize on the wide field of the 0.9-meter and HDI.
