Title: Complementing Gaia from the ground: the COSMIC-DANCE survey

Abstract: We propose to obtain new epoch wide field images of 22 nearby clusters and associations with DECam. The time difference with our own DECam images obtained 3 years ago will allow us to compute accurate transverse velocities down to $< mas/yr accuracy. Combined with archival NOAO, ESO, Subaru CFHT & UKIRT wide field images obtained between 9 and 20 years ago, the precision will go down to $<.5mas/yr over a significant fraction of the survey. These measurements will complement the Gaia mission i) down to the planetary mass regime; ii) in young deeply embedded regions where Gaia will be blind. These observations will allow us: a) to derive a complete census based on a kinematic selection of members; 2) perform a statistically significant study of the IMF; 3) study the internal dynamics of each group separately, and perform a comparison of groups of various ages, metallicities, densities and structures {bf over a luminosity (mass) range that Gaia will not reach}.
