Title: Follow-up Spectroscopy for Common-Proper-Motion T-Dwarf Companion Candidate
Abstract: We propose to obtain GNIRS spectroscopy of a T-Dwarf candidate companion of the planet-host star HD 23596. Confirming this to be a physical companion of the star would help explain the high eccentricity of the known RV planet HD 23596b (e=0.3). We have previously observed this object with Spitzer/IRAC in two epochs and determined it to have Near-IR colors consistent with a T3.5 dwarf and similar proper motion to HD 23596. The candidate is separated from the primary star by 1.9' and its expected J-band magnitude is ~21. We request 3 hours total exposure time to have sufficient S/N to characterize the spectral type of the source and confirm its brown dwarf nature.
