Title: The Expansion and Evolution of the Tycho Supernova Remnant

Abstract: We request time with GMOS-N for a deep mosaic image of the Tycho supernova remnant, which will extend our series of images from 7 epochs dating from 1986. Our goals are to (1) to follow the evolution of filaments in Tycho and extend our proper motion measurements to additional filaments; (2) to obtain the first proper motion measurement for extremely faint emission---discovered in our most recent (2009) epoch of images---around much of the Tycho shell, where the shock is probably moving the fastest; and (3) to serve as recent epoch images for future spectroscopy to explore the physics of non radiative shocks and (when combined with our proper motions) to give the first precise distance to Tycho.
