Title: Which KOI Binaries are Gravitationally Bound?

Abstract: Binary star systems that host exoplanets appear to be more common than originally expected. The {it Kepler} mission, along with ground- based follow-up work, has discovered a number of Kepler Objects of Interest (KOIs) with nearby companions (within $sim$ 1 arcsec). However, observations to date do not conclusively demonstrate whether these nearby companions are gravitationally bound to the KOIs, or simply line of sight companions. We propose to carry out speckle imaging observations of KOIs that have stellar companions, to answer the fundamental question of whether these systems are truly gravitationally bound. We will take a two method approach: 1) Determining if system components have common proper motion, and 2) placing system components on an H-R diagram to determine photometrically if they are consistent with being a binary pair. Isochrone fitting to system components will also provide constraints on system parameters including stellar radii, important for transit curve fitting.
