Title: Slaying Systematics: Maximizing Cosmological Power from HST-Measured Weak Lensing Masses of SPT Galaxy Clusters at Redshift z~0.9

Abstract: We aim to calibrate the SZ mass-scaling relation at z ~ 0.9 with high-quality weak-lensing measurements. We have already obtained HST imaging for galaxy shape estimates and seek to acquire complementary i-band photometry for 10 clusters in order to eliminate the dominant systematic in the lensing measurement: contamination by cluster galaxies. By combining HST imaging with deep GMOS i-band imaging we can eliminate 98% of the contaminating cluster galaxies, thus enabling us to measure the mass-scaling normalization to better than 10% at z ~ 0.9. This will provide the tightest weak lensing constraints on the redshift evolution of the SZ-mass scaling relation to date, enabling improved cosmological and astrophysical investigations. This request compensates for the reduced initial time allocation for this program in 2014B, which was a result of high competition at the requested R.A. range and observing conditions.
