Title: Pachon Aerosol Monitoring Campaign

Abstract: We propose to monitor the stability of aerosol scattering above Pachon, in preparation for LSST operations. This program entails short spectroscopic observations of a star at the S celestial pole, taken during twilight every other night, using GMOS. In order to ensure we have spectrophotometric data, we will obtain both slitless and 5-arcsec slit spectra of this program star. The temporal variation of aerosol scattering is poorly constrained and we will use this information to optimze LSST scheduling. This program address photometric calibration systematic errors, which presently limit the use of type Ia supernovae for studying the nature of the dark energy.
