Title: Toward a Complete Photometric Initial Mass Function of the 25 Orionis Group Down to Planetary Masses

Abstract: We propose a very simple set of observations to test a capital prediction from star formation models: the stellar Initial Mass Function (IMF). To achieve this goal we need to complement an existent VISTA near-IR photometric catalog of the 25 Orionis group (bands $YZJHK$) with very deep wide band $i$ optical DECam mosaic in an area of 3.0 deg$^2$ that spans the center and outskirts of the 25 Ori group down to $sim$10 M$_{Jup}$. Our plan is to construct a very deep optical-infrared $i$ vs. $i-J$ color-magnitude diagram, which will allow us to achieve enough color leverage to separate a complete sample of members from the field population, down to the near-planetary mass range ($sim$10 M$_{Jup}$). Also, the data would have enough resolution to resolve most wide-binary systems, helping to constraint differences between the system vs. single object IMF. The project only requires 1.0 hour at the CTIO 4m telescope, but will yield very fruitful science.
