Title: Membership of Ruprecht 147 to support the K2 Survey

Abstract: Old (3 Gyr) and nearby (300 pc), Ruprecht 147 (R147) is a unique but little studied star cluster that promises to become an important benchmark for stellar astrophysics. We have identified 150 members, but the census is far from complete. In late 2015, over 1000 candidates will be observed with NASA's K2 mission for our GO program (GO7035) to study stellar rotation and activity, and search for transiting exoplanets at an age when multicellular life first evolved on Earth. To fully exploit this opportunity, we propose a deep radial velocity survey with WIYN/Hydra to increase the number of confirmed Sun-like members, extend kinematic membership to lower mass red dwarfs, and identify close spectroscopic binaries. Determining the nature and frequency of exoplanets in old clusters, calibrating gyrochronology for inferring ages of exoplanets, and characterizing the magnetic and high-energy environments of 3 Gyr stars to inform exoplanet habitability are all objectives worthy of the NN-EXPLORE program.
