Title: Clusters with K2: systematics from membership and binarity

Abstract: The repurposed {it Kepler} mission, K2, has the potential to significantlt improve our understanding of how exoplanets evolve. The transiting exoplanets K2 will find around clusters (aged 10 Myr -- 5 Gyr) can be compared statistically to provide strong constraints on how planet properties varies with age and environment. However, this requires an accurate understanding of not just the exoplanet host stars, but the parent sample of cluster candidates K2 is observing. Poorly constrained membership lists for the cool stars and uncertain binary rates for target stars could lead to systematic errors in our understanding of the intrinsic planet population. Here we propose to measure precise RVs for a large sample of K2 cluster targets using Hydra on WIYN. With this information we can detect the majority of binaries and remove interlopers from the cluster membership lists. These data are essential to maximize the scientific utility of results from K2 cluster observations.
