Title: Completing the Census of the Nearest Star-Forming Region
Abstract: The initial mass function provides a key test of theories of star and brown dwarf formation, but samples of young stars and brown dwarfs suffer from incompleteness and selection biases. We have undertaken a wide field astrometric survey of the Ophiuchus star-forming region using archival and new Spitzer data. With our improved astrometric solution for Spitzer/IRAC and the ten-year baseline between epochs, we uncovered a new population of candidate Ophiuchus members based on their proper motions. In this proposal we request ARCoIRIS spectroscopy to confirm new members and construct an IMF for Ophiuchus that is complete down to $sim$3~mjup.
