Title: Ionized Gas Kinematics in the Central Regions of EDGES Galaxies

Abstract: The technique of rotation curve decomposition to derive mass models is currently the most accurate method of determining properties of the dark matter density profiles in spiral galaxies. This analysis most often utilizes radio synthesis observations of the HI emission to derive a rotation curve and therefore total dynamical mass. However, many galaxies do not have detectable HI emission in their central parts. In order to better constrain the kinematics, and thus the best-fitting dark halo model to the central regions of galaxies, velocity information will need to be obtained for the central few kpc in galaxies where there is no detectable HI emission. The goal of this proposal is to acquire H$\alpha$ line emission observations to derive the ionized gas kinematics in the central few kpc of galaxies. This data will supplement HI and near-infrared observations to determine the mass distribution of dark matter in galaxies.
