Title: Comparative Exoplanetology: Connecting the Structure and Climate of Hot Jupiter Atmospheres to Irradiation

Abstract: We propose to use NEWFIRM on the KPNO 4m Mayall telescope to obtain high-precision time-series photometry of the secondary eclipses of six hot Jupiters in the $Ks$-band. \emph{This will provide a direct measurement of thermal emission from the planet's day-side, allowing us to probe the connection between the atmospheric structure and climate deep in their atmospheres and irradiation from their host star.} We will target known hot Jupiters as well as new hot Jupiters around bright stars discovered by the KELT survey. Results from this program will be combined with those from our CFHT and AAT surveys of hot Jupiter eclipses, resulting in the largest study of this kind to date. \emph{Together, the observations acquired with the KPNO 4m, CFHT, and AAT will provide us with the longitudinal and latitudinal coverage required to observe a significant number of unique targets in eclipse.} These observations will ultimately allow a comprehensive statistical analysis of the diversity of hot Jupiter atmospheres via their NIR eclipses, which can be compared to infrared observations that probe higher in the atmosphere.
