Title: Contemporaneous WIYN/Hydra and K2 Measurements of the Magnetic Properties of Sun-like Stars

Abstract: We propose to obtain spectra with WIYN/Hydra for 88 solar-type stars in the solar-age and solar-metallicity open cluster, M67. These spectra will be combined with ultra-high precision light curves obtained with the repurposed $Kepler$ mission, $K2$, in an approved Cycle 1 GO program. While the fundamental properties of host stars, such as luminosity and effective temperature, determine the boundaries of the so- called Habitable Zone (HZ), the variability due to magnetic activity can significantly influence the thermal structure and composition of the atmospheres of exoplanets in the HZ on both short and long time scales. The total data-set will yield insights on the nature of magnetic field- related variability in sun-like stars at solar age with solar chemical composition that may also be the hosts of exoplanetary systems. Characterization of the conditions of the HZ in solar-age stars where terrestrial-size planets may form and evolve is among the objectives of the NN\_EXPLORE program.
