Title: Star Cluster Ages from Infrared Photometry

Abstract: Star clusters have historically served as tracers of the evolution of stellar populations. Since most star clusters formed after the first few Gyr appear to be well represented by simple stellar populations, they can be age dated through fits to spectral energy distributions. Unfortunately due to the convergence of temperatures of red evolved stars along the Hayashi line, near infrared observations of colors cannot readily distinguish star clusters with ages of $>$10~Myr when red evolved stars appear. Thus the tremendous practical advantages of near infrared (NIR) observations, including high angular resolution via adaptive optics and ability to penetrate dust, cannot be used. In this proposal we will use WIYN to further test a new method for deriving ages of star clusters from intermediate band photometry of star clusters. Our project includes observations for calibration of the technique and targeting of a few interesting systems to study the effectiveness of our approach.
