Title: Exploring Stellar Populations in the Galactic Bulge
Abstract: We propose to study the stellar populations of the northern Bulge using the CN red system with pODI. We request two nights when pODI is available to obtain observations of one or two fields in the northern Bulge. We will use the existing Mosaic 815 filter (similar to the Wing 8120 filter) along with the Sloan g and i filters. Bulge giants will be analyzed using photometry of individual stars through using an i-815 vs g-i diagram. The fields selected will be coincident with the northern fields observed with Hydra by Johnson et al. (2013, ApJ, 765, 157). They found a full range in metallicity spanning [Fe/H] from -1.5 to +0.5, and that the median [Fe/H] declines with increasing Galactic latitude at something like a few tenths of a dex kpc-1. Stars with [Fe/H] = -0.5 are alpha-enhanced, and the [alpha/Fe] ratios decline at higher metallicity. The pODI observations will permit us to explore variations in CN among the observed Bulge populations.
