Title: Complementing Gaia from the ground: the DANCe survey

Abstract: We propose to obtain new epoch wide field images of 2 young nearby associations with NEWFIRM. The time difference with archival CFHT, Subaru \& UKIRT wide field images (between 9 and 15 years) will allow us to compute accurate transverse velocities down to $<$0.5 mas/yr accuracy. These measurements will complement the Gaia mission beyond the substellar limit and down to the planetary mass regime. These observations will allow us: a) to derive a complete census based on a kinematic selection of members; 2) perform a statistically significant study of the IMF; 3) study the internal dynamics of each group separately over the entire mass spectrum, and perform a comparison of groups of various ages, metallicities, densities and structures. Ultimately, complementary radial velocity measurements (to be requested in the future) will give us a complete picture of the 3D space motions within young associations, {\bf in a luminosity range that Gaia will not reach}. This is the continuation of an accepted S14A DECam proposal to extend the survey to northern associations.
