The Far-Infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy survey is a Legacy science program being carried out with the Spitzer Space Telescope. The project is making the most sensitive and extensive far-infrared deep field observations with Spitzer to detect warm dust emission from hundreds of relatively ordinary starburst galaxies and active galactic nuclei at redshifts of 1 to 2 (7 to 10 billion years ago), and thousands more nearby. The survey also detects tens of thousands of high redshift objects at mid-infrared wavelengths. NOAO astronomer Mark Dickinson leads the project, in collaboration with NOAO postdoctoral fellows and data reduction specialists, University of Arizona astronomers, and an international team of scientists.
