DESI Collaboration Meeting

DESI Collaboration Meeting

May 23-25, 2018 • Tucson, Arizona

Registration deadline May 14

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) will measure the effect of dark energy on the expansion of the universe. It will obtain optical spectra for tens of millions of galaxies and quasars, constructing a 3-dimensional map spanning the nearby universe to 10 billion light years.

DESI will host its annual collaboration meeting in Tucson 23-25 May, 2018. The plenary sessions will include status of the construction, plans for installation, commissioning, science validation and operations, and reports from the science working groups. Each of these topics will be the focus of more detailed discussion in the breakout sessions. The main meeting will open on May 23 at 9 am at the Tucson Marriott University Park and close at 5 pm on the afternoon of May 25. As this is only a three-day meeting, particpants are encouraged to stay for the full Friday afternoon session. The meeting is open to DESI Collaboration members and invited guests.

On Tuesday May 22, a couple of hotel meeting rooms will be available to participants for an informal hack day. Please contact desicmtg@noao.edu for more information. There will be no conference dinner, but there are several restaurants within a short walk from the hotel, and your hosts will help you self-organize into groups for lunch and dinner.

We are organizing an optional visit to Kitt Peak on Saturday, May 26, for interested meeting participants. Please indicate your interest on the Registration page so we know how much transportation to arrange. Other possible activities on Saturday may be self-organized by meeting participants, and include visits to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, Kartchner Caverns, Sabino Canyon, and Saguaro National Park.

This DESI Collaboration meeting will immediately follow the DECam Community Science Workshop, May 21-22, in the same location. Attendance at the meeting requires separate registration.
