GNIRS PROGRESS REPORT

June 21– July 25, 2002

           Accomplishments / Status

Summary:  94% of the work from the Restart Review to delivery has been completed.  Progress was made on radiation shield assembly rework, bench assembly, fit checks and wiring, and slit mechanism cold testing.

The post-slit bench has been successfully fit checked into the bulkhead assembly. The dewar mount truss has been fit checked to the ISS on the Flexure Rig in our new facility. The last SR camera lens has been accepted and integrated into the camera. Flexure testing has set for late August following completion of instrument assembly and initial testing. The slit mechanism cold test is nearly complete. Following successful completion of this test, the relevant bearings in the other cold mechanisms will be replaced and those mechanisms functionally warm tested before installation back into the post-slit bench.

All testing is scheduled to complete and the instrument ship to Chile in the first quarter of 2003. All planned schedule contingency has been used.

Next Milestone: The next major project milestones are:

                                                - Slit mechanism cold testing completion  - July
                                                - Top assembly integration completion - August
                                                - Flexure testing - late August
