GNIRS PROGRESS REPORT

October 20 – November 23, 2001

           Accomplishments / Status

Summary:  85% of the work from the Restart Review to delivery has been completed.

The work during this period included design of the Molecular Sieve, radiation shield design, Bulkhead Assembly and Dewar Shell fabrication and mechanism testing. The Bulkhead Assembly and Dewar Shells have been inspected, leak tested and accepted at the vendor, and are due to be shipped to NOAO on November 30th after painting. Grating and Prism Turret mechanism testing is in process. All mechanisms have completed parts fabrication.

All optics have been inspected and accepted. One camera lens is being coated and is yet to be received. Pre-Slit bench optics installation and alignment is ready to start. Camera test and alignment is ready to start.

The integration of the WFS components onto the bench is complete, and alignment is complete.  Wiring and software checkout are proceeding.

Change orders for delivery of GNIRS to Chile, including Testing, Training, and Commissioning, and for the Differential Pressure Switch, are still in process. Work on the Differential Pressure Switch is complete. The test plan for Acceptance Testing, Delivery to Chile, Training and Commissioning has been submitted to Gemini for approval.

Next Milestone: The next major project milestone is the completion of Radiation Shield design by December 3rd.
