The following describes the duties as the Mechanical Work Package Manager for the GNIRS project:

1.      Gary Muller has been assigned and delegated the job function of Lead Mechanical Engineer for GNIRS.

a)      This implies that you are a member of the GNIRS instrument team, accountable to the PM and PS for progress and budget on all mechanical tasks, attending weekly project meetings, design reviews, and speaking as the responsible individual for all mechanical related tasks for the GNIRS project.

b)      You are responsible for the overall Mechanical Work Package which has the following budgets and schedule constraints:

 -  Total budget:             30,402 hrs

- Mechanisms        15,990 hrs

- Bench Assemblies       5,109 hrs

- Fixed Assemblies       9,303 hrs

- Completion of the Mechanical effort by July, 2001

c)      You will operate with maximum autonomy as a key member of the GNIRS engineering staff

d)      Any individuals working with you on mechanical tasks will receive their direction from yourself.  You are accountable for the work performed by them.

e)      Included in your task list is the support of mechanism fabrication, assembly and test.

You are also tasked to design, fabricate, and deliver linear and rotary mechanism prototypes, and optical prototypes, which will be tested in the large test dewar.  You are to coordinate the requirements of these prototypes with Jay Elias, the GNIRS systems engineer/project scientist.  The budget hours for these tasks are not included in the above list, as they are currently under the Systems Engineering work package.

 2.      As the GNIRS Lead Mechanical Engineer you are responsible for:

a)      All tasks relating to delivering operating mechanical hardware

b)      Providing support to the systems design effort

c)      Maintaining and updating the weight budget

d)      Implementing and maintaining configuration control of the GNIRS instrument.

e)      Supervising any draftspersons, designers or engineers who might assist you in these tasks.
