X-rays Chandra
From NOAOWiki
The Planetary Nebula Binary Working Group Wiki: X-rays (Chandra) project
PIs: Orsola De Marco
Team: Joel Kastner, Rudy Montez, Noam Soker, You-Hua Chu
Aim: detecting X-rays from known binary CSPNe indicative of coronal activity from the M-type companions which are predicted to have been spun up by the common envelope interaction. As is the case for the R.V. and phot. models project, we need to know more about the properties of known binaries in order to effectively search for them.
Telescope/Instrument: Chandra + ACIS-S
Technique: X-ray imaging
Run(s) dates (or proposal deadline): Approved July 2008; both DS1 and HFG 1 observed.
Target list(s): Known close binary central stars with cool companions: HFG1, DS1. Both stars detected: hard Xray emission from central source, consistent with coronal emission.
Publications: Montez, De Marco, Kastner, Chu, to be submitted end May 2010.
Comments (please enter here any comments - advice) and sign them! We have made our Chandra debut both central stars were actually detected! Rudy is analyzing the spectrum and reports a strange double peaked behaviour.
